My Projects goal and theme:

I have decided to base my project how the NBA relates to politics in todays day and age. My objective is to study the influences of the NBA since its origin, and how it grew to be a powerful political organizaton.

This project will use a multitude of digital tools and techniques in order to uncover the importance the NBA has had on society and political events since its origin in 1946. I intend to explore the nuances of history and the leagues direct and indirect reverberations it has had. I will be covering many of the major events as well as some of the smaller events throughout my study at random. More notable recent events will also be covered such as the relationship the league has with China as well as the BLM movement.

Some of the subsidiary questions I will be trying to answer as I find the answer to my major question will be:

• Over these 76 years, a lot has changed, but how much of it was due to the impact the NBA itself has had? 
• Was there a certain person/organization among the league that kickstarted having a “Voice”?

I will be demonstrating my understandings of this project by using the following digital methods:

• Voyant
  • I will be compiling an assortment of scriptures then analyzing what the main and key words were among the said documents. It will include past tweets (and other forms of media) from the leagues top players/team owners/NBA commissioners as well as pre- and post-game press conference interviews. Through this, a keyword analysis will be made that will be able to collate the information to historic events though time which will go fluidly with my next digital tool.
• Timeline
  • I will be using historic events that have occurred and relating them to what I have found in Voyant. I will then run a comprehensive study into which events had the most significance to society through understanding the time and place each of these events transpired. While still providing an interactive and visually appealing timeline.
• Twine
  • I will then create a minigame where you get to choose decisions throughout history where your actions may result in disastrous consequences or outstanding rewards. Acting as the studied big named superstars and team owners to see what society could have become if you were in charge in said times. 
• OBS/Voice recording
  • I will then have a recording that will break down my findings for anyone to listen to integrated into my page. Essentially allowing me to demonstrate a step-by-step of what was done to come to my conclusion.
• Omeka
  • The use of Metadata may be used to provide a manuscript of what the recordings say. As well as any images used within Twine.
